Young
people being put into care need stable relationships and a home.
The parents'
function is not limited to the education and taking care of the children
until they are of age. The parent-child-relationship lasts the whole life.
That is why we
demand:
Young people
in care have a right to stable relationships with people with who they
can keep in contact after care, as well - like in a family.
Therefore:
putting young people into care should be avoided whenever possible.
the families should be supported according to their needs, with information,
financial aid, assistance for household and education and psychologic
/ psychotherapeutic help.
in case it is unavoidable for young people to being put into care a reduction
of the people they confide in should be avoided in any case (like loss
of the parents due to missing contact) Only persons who are able to build
a relationship with the young people being put into their care and are
able to keep this relationship when the young people become of age should
be employed and be allowed to take young people in care.
Organizations,
associations and projects working especially with young adults who could
not grow up with their parents and who therefore do not have a stable
relationship should be supported - especially those initiated by young
adults who themselves were in care before.
Goals of the after
care
Providing
support regarding
· the process of growing up
· housekeeping (cooking, washing, cleaning, money transactions
etc.)
· overcoming of critical life events (psychotherapy)
· setting up home (flat-hunting, financing, information)
· dealing with bureaucracy, institutions etc.
· Financial problems (information, reduction of one's debts etc.)
· Pregnancy, birth, start of a family, education of the own children
This help and support
should not be imposed, but has to be easily accessible if needed!
This support can be
given by·a confidant from the time of being in care (like an educator
etc.)
a person who has been in care him/herself and the training needed, a confidant
of free choice
